This weekend was sad as it was the funeral of a long-lost relative.  I’d had the privilege of having a beautiful conversation with her 2 weeks before she passed. These were my impressions as loved ones-near and far gathered for a final farewell.

We sit in the pews

Pain rushes anew

We listen to the eulogy

Pain making no apology

We lower the casket

Pain piercing

Like a lancet

We sit and cry

Pain, now not shy

Wherever we go

Pain ebbs and flows

Dealing with this loss

Means pain is our cross

But grieving

Is healing

And

Pain will not gather speed

It will not gather moss
